Lucky 15, Yankee and every full-cover bet explained
Full-cover bets are how UK racing shops bundle every double, treble and bigger multiple from a set of selections. The names sound like pub games; the maths is just combinations.
Line counts at a glance
- Trixie — 3 selections, 4 bets (3 doubles + 1 treble).
- Patent — 3 selections, 7 bets (adds 3 singles).
- Yankee — 4 selections, 11 bets (doubles, trebles, fourfold — no singles).
- Lucky 15 — 4 selections, 15 bets (Yankee + 4 singles).
- Canadian / Super Yankee — 5 selections, 26 bets.
- Lucky 31 / 63 — 5 or 6 selections with singles included.
- Heinz / Super Heinz / Goliath — 6 / 7 / 8 selections, no singles.
How a Lucky 15 actually pays
Four winners at evens, £1 a line (£15 stake):
That is before any bookmaker bonus. One winner at 5/1 on a £1 Lucky 15 returns the single (£6) plus any consolation (e.g. double odds → another £6 of winnings on some houses).
Bonuses and consolations
Many UK books publish Lucky-family perks:
- One-winner consolation — often double odds on the winning single.
- All-winners bonus — often about +10% on winnings when every selection wins.
- One-loser bonus — less common; a percentage if exactly one fails.
We store dated snapshots for William Hill, Paddy Power, Sky Bet and Coral in the bookmaker rules library and as one-tap Bonus Packs on the Lucky calculator. Coral online is typically no bonus — useful as a baseline.
Non-runners
A non-runner voids that selection. Singles on it are refunded; every multiple that included it drops a fold (a double becomes a single at the remaining horse's odds). Always mark NR in the calculator rather than deleting the row if you want the settlement path to match the shop.
Yankee vs Lucky 15
Same four horses: a Yankee needs at least two winners for a return; a Lucky 15 still pays the singles. The Lucky costs four extra stakes and usually carries the consolation rules. Use the calculator's type switcher on identical odds to compare.
